Structural Scanning for Earthquake Report
We were engaged by an engineering firm to scan the top level of a three-storey building in Rotorua’s CBD. The third level had been added after the ground and second floors were constructed, and the original plans did not confirm whether reinforcing steel had been installed in the walls, floors, and columns.
Using the latest Hilti GPR concrete scanning equipment and Profis software, we carried out a detailed survey of the structure. The scans confirmed the presence of reinforcing steel within the concrete elements, providing the assurance needed for the earthquake assessment.
A full report was delivered to the client, supporting their structural review and compliance requirements. Our team regularly provides scanning services throughout the Bay of Plenty region.
KAHAROA SCHOOL
Concrete Pool Hatch
At Kaharoa School, we were engaged to scan the pool’s ballast tank lid as part of upcoming maintenance works.
To create a new manhole opening, it was essential to first identify the reinforcing steel within the concrete lid. By accurately locating the reinforcement, the required cut could be made with minimal disruption to the steel, reducing both the cutting effort and any potential weakening of the structure.
Using advanced scanning technology, we were able to generate detailed 3D images that clearly showed the depth, thickness, and exact positioning of the reinforcement, ensuring a safe and efficient outcome.
